Crater Lake OR

Crater Lake State Park OR, 18H x 24W inches soft pastels on paper. Framed size 27H x 33W inches, white wood frame, crackle finish.
Crater Lake’s water is in reality a vivid and surreal blue. I reworked the lake colors and background textures quite a bit, trying numerous techniques to create unique water representation, and at the same time make the surrounding mountains recede… resulting with these vertical line textures. I finally made the call to stop because in trying to fix things in some areas, other areas that were fine started becoming messy. Pastels and paper were pushed to their limits.

Vancouver Island Blues
Sunday, May 30th, 2021
Vancouver Island Blues, lodgepole pine at Nimkish Lake BC, 18H x 24W inches soft pastels on paper. Blues because of the main colors, but also because I’m a little blue that crossing the border into Canada is still so complicated. Hopefully by the end of the year most restrictions will have been lifted!
Shepperd’s Dell Falls
Tuesday, December 8th, 2020
Shepperd’s Dell Falls, East Historic Columbia River, Corbett, Oregon – 24H x 18W inches soft pastels on paper. Interesting that a change as trivial as flipping the format to portrait threw me off my game for a bit, and it took a while to adapt.
